I posted a version of this on insta and thought we could have this delicious chat here too.
You’re at a new cafe.
They don’t have matcha (blasphemy).
They have those regular crappy plant based milk in cartons and crappy mass produced dairy.
What do you order?
I love talking about these very unimportant things.
This morning I took my kids for a wintery play at a park, right by a cafe I’d never been to.
“I’ll have a matcha please wit….”
“Oh sorry we don’t have matcha.”
I then spend the next 60 seconds deliberating over whether or not I want something less perfect than matcha and whether it’s worth having that said drink with the crappy milk most cafes have.
I decide, yes.
Yes it is worth it.
It’s worth it because this wintery morning at the park with my kids will be extra delicious with a warm bevvy in my hands.
I make most of my hot bevs at home with either raw milk from a friend’s cow (lucky!!) or clean/no crapola nut milk. I add raw honey, or maple, and colostrum etc. They’re elite. But I also love cafe culture and the cozy feeling of playing with my kids at the park with a takeaway hot bev.
Sometimes I take my own in a keep cup, sure. But there’s something about the takeaway that hits different.
What I 1000% believe to be true, and what is a big part of my Body Luxury philosophy is this— sometimes the moment matters more than the ingredients.
The snug, wholesome feeling of a takeaway bev with my kids at the park on a winter day, will do more for my overall wellbeing than avoiding *that* milk.
Milk lab and alternative milk co are not my jam. (Popular Aussie cafe milks).
Neither is the mass produced dairy.
I don’t like the seed oils or all the gums not to mention the glyphosate in oat milk.
I’ve thought about creating an alternative for cafes that is actually good. But it’s in line with my 364 other ideas.
Also, I don’t need to.
I’ll make mine at home most of the time, but when I’m out and the moment strikes, which is quite often, I’ve got no fear of grabbing one— with any milk.
I love cafe culture.
I love a good takeaway hot bev.
I love the ritual.
Also….
My perception of what it’s gonna do to me, matters more than what’s actually in it. This is a fundamental belief of mine and core part of the body luxury philosophy.
Am I still healthy if I have this milk?
Am I someone who can have this milk and still thrive?
What do I believe this milk has the power to do to me?
Our perception matters, a lot.
It’s not just what we eat/drink, but what we believe about it.
I’ve spoken about this at length and am also in the middle of writing a little ebook full of the basics of Body Luxury.
But more than this, sometimes what I want MORE than the perfect nutritional morning, is the positive effect of that cozy, happy, carefree morning I get to have with my kids. This is an ingredient too.
If you’re as curious as me when it comes to this stuff, I don’t blame you, I get it. We can be nosy here, it’s fine. Today I got a decaf mocha with oat milk- something I don’t usually get (I never order oat milk), but my morning was absolutely delicious, enriching, and I wasn’t spending the precious time with my kids wondering if a 12oz cup of average milk was gonna roll me.
Cos it won’t.
So the big question here, and it’s just for fun.
You’re at the cafe.
They don’t have your ideal milks for someone who is a bonafide wellness woman.
But you want a hot bevy.
What do you get?
I think one of my hobbies could be standing at a cafe listening to people’s orders, you know, in all my free time.
Have a beautiful weekend.

Ooof, this was a bloody good reminder to not be a twat and enjoy the moment more than the milk 🙈 thank you Peta!
English breakfast with a dash of cows milk! But I live in England where tea is LIFE!
