How to push reset on your brand and have so much fun again.
This post will reignite your voice, be warned.
Ok ok ok ok I feel like I am so well positioned to write this piece and we are going to have a lotta fun.
I have been on Instagram for 14 years, Substack for 4.5 yrs.
I deleted my FB with over 55,000 followers back in 2018 because I could nottttt be bothered with another platform. I do wish I had’ve saved my photos from my party days though. They’re all gone. Probably for the best.
Yes, when you click on my Instagram account info it says I joined in 2011 AND I have exactly the same handle as back then. at petajean_ . How very vintage of me.
I mean, I get in my head sometimes for not being ‘consistent’ like the local generators on social media. But the truth? I have been incredibly consistent with sharing my voice on social media. Sure, I’ve taken breaks but who cares? If there’s one thing I have stuck to for the long game, it’s been sharing online. It has been creating, evolving and expressing. I have a brand with real longevity.
I have often fantasised about drawing a big fat line across my instagram and being like NEW SEASON GUYS NEW SEASON IGNORE EVERYTHING BEFORE HERE.
Still, I’ve also fantasised about burning it down and building again without the (perceived) heavy weight of my audiences expectations. I have had people follow me since the beginning and I LOVE THIS but there is a niggling part of me that feels obligated to satisfy their expectations of me in 2011, me in 2013, me in 2015, me in 2017, me in 2022, me in 2025.
Do you know what I mean?
I have no problem changing my mind publicly— I’ve done it many times. My audience has watched me go from science girl to super woo woo, to network marketing pioneer building a 7 figure, onto 8 figure business in her 20’s….
to moving to the states to be with my husband and getting married in maui…
Publisher of 5 books beginning with Earth Is Hiring that I toured for globally with my eldest baby on my chest (so fun).
to home birthing natural mumma of three loves of my life (still her)…
world traveller living in four different countries and the emotional journey of returning to my home town several times… (you can actually go back in my archive and read about all that). This included living in London near Ricky Gervais and seeing him play with my dogs almost everyday trying so dam hard not to embarrass myself as a fan girl. I played it cool most of the time, not all.
BSc(Hons) science gal turned super crunchy, to then writing a whole book about Body Luxury- life beyond wellness obsession.
Gal who spoke up about the jabs, and chest feeding, and other things that shouldn’t have been controversial but were. Strange times.
Finding Jesus on my search for truth and freedom, but then turning hard right towards conservatism and blurring my faith with politics for a while there as cultural conversations made my inner world a bit loud…. and then PHEW popping out the other side into a faith beyond performance, beyond labels, beyond politics and into the great remembering— what Jesus really came here to tell us, to free us from…
I have hosted events, written books, taught programs (then archived them all), secretly donated, secretly angel invested, secretly wrestled with whether to do this dam social media thing at all.
After all, I can afford to switch it all off, so why don’t I?
Because I so value creative expression. I value freedom of expression. I value free speech. I value the sharing of ideas and the free market. I value humanity and seeing ourselves in each others raw expressions. I value hilarious people and their funny videos. I value the sharing of important messages that change the way others think for the better. I value the power of everyday people sharing information with each other beyond the grips of the elites.
I value these things so much and so I have stayed. I have stayed on social media.
But staying on social media is not the same thing as having fun on it, as loving it again, as using it in a way that breathes life into you and your home and your family.
We get to love it, we get to have fun with it, we get to use it in a way that breathes life into our art, our expression, our audience, and the people who are most important to us— in our home.
So right now I am entering a new season of expression. I’m intentionally going to a new place, sharing from a new energy. I am doing the subtle, behind the scenes work on updating my self concept, so that the energy I bring to my pages and my audience is naturally new and refreshed.
It needs to be, after 14 years. We need intentional periods of reinvention so that we don’t feel like dried up saltine crackers every time we approach the keyboard, slogging out a post out of obligation.
Nup. We don’t need to do that. There is a new well of aliveness and excitement that we get to tap into.
I am in my intentional reinvention now…
I am sharing it with you in these new and refreshed pages.
Here, I am going to share some of the gold from my own experience, that will free little bits of stagnancy and subtle dishonesty within you.
These 5 nuggets will help to restart the engine of your brand, find your fire again, have fun again, and perhaps totally change direction without needing to change your handle, put a fat line through your grid or burn it all to the ground. It’s tempting, but not necessary ;)
Number 1 or 4 will hit the hardest I’m guessing. You’ll have to let me know!
There is also a fun activity at the bottom too that I personally did yesterday!
Your new energy will have nothing to do with being a goody-goody. Your new brand is unflinchingly honest, alive and life giving for all who touch it.
Keep in mind, this is going to be an ONGOING conversation on my Substack so continue following. This will not be the last post on the topic.
