We want to know ‘what our big thing is’… the thing we can do that no one else can. We want to put that grandiose and compelling description in our bio, the one that sets us apart as ‘someone’. But God isn’t hiding our purpose in a treasure chest, with a key that only opens it once we’ve completed 43 programs about our zone of genius.
Your purpose is so humble and basic that you overlook it. Your kid is asking you to come and see the cubby they built, but your mind is fixed on articulating a super brilliant post, or brainstorming your offering structure— the big seems the biggest. We believe that our purpose must be noteworthy and instagrammable…. But that’s all just periphery. Decoration.
Who is in front of you? Love them.
What has God given you? Give them.
This is it.
No measuring.
No calculating.
No announcing.
No perfecting.
We are here to love others.
To play pass the parcel with our blessings.
We do with purpose what we do with food.
We overcomplicate ‘what’ we eat so much that ‘how’ we are eating is actually the poison. We punish, over analyze, restrict, over indulge, and make every food choice from a place of inner conflict and confusion— we think this doesn’t matter cos ‘we’re eating right.’ No. It does matter. Because we’ve forgotten the whole simple, natural reason we eating and have let 'what' we're eating consume our lives.
We do the same with purpose. We want the perfect branding, messaging, positioning, copy. It might mean something to metrics, but it means NOTHING when considering the very simple purpose God has given us all. Who is in front of me? Am I loving them? What gifts, resources and blessings has God given me? Am I giving them?
Give me a loving donut maker over a hateful feminist any day of the week (please, I beg).
It’s time we humble ourselves to what we’re REALLY here to do. This takes real discipline in a world designed to make us think that we’re all meant for public Instagram stardom. Hard truth— your purpose is mostly private, thankless, immeasurable.
You’ll notice by how it feels in your heart.
Don’t confuse ‘how you make money’ with your true purpose as a God created human.

Thank you for confirming what I've truly known in my heart, but have battled senselessly with for years. I have six children that chose me yet still my head has been turning left and right all for what? A dear friend who has passed always used to say 'know who's in front of you.' I see it as no accident that you have said almost the exact same thing. God is good. ♥️
