Omg yes, I get soooo tired of eveyone doing the same trends in a slightly different cringe way. Admittedly, some are good, or funny. But still, it’s just so boring.

As I start to take my writing more seriously (and joyfully), I am learning the craft more. Actually doing a proper class online with a teacher. I desire to write books and make something with depth. I do, also like a bit of play online but I want to make original as possible and meaningful.

It’s a wild world out there now, especially with AI. That slop is also so tiring!

Here’s to your 6th book! ✨🎉

LOVED this. Reading this transported me to places outside of North America, where people care to be excellent in arenas other than content creation and tech/AI. I love listening to people deep in their craft, and hope to learn what that is for me eventually!

There are so many things I want to create and be excellent at... Right now it's to be mom. Hah!

I love that you said ‘there are so many things I want to create and be excellent at, right now it’s being a mum’ ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was just writing a piece about finding one’s pace — in the past 2 months, I’ve moved states, started over in my hometown, began a business writing program, and considered social media .. and it has been overwhelming to say the least. Truly, I just want to stoke my creative fire, somehow. I don’t want to be catchy — I desire legacy, to know my voice with certainty, and to walk at the speed God desires at this time.

So, with your words ringing, I’m taking a step back and actually WRITING. No content calendar, no trends. Just me, the page, and the topics that I can speak to with my soul (cathedrals! Europe! Faith! Being a slightly nomadic single 30 year old!) 💛

Yes! Social media should form around your fire, your gifts, your interests xxx

Michael Jackson fever is in the house, honestly it feels like a blessing. He’s story has given such a felt and resonant meaning to creation. Like this is what I’ve always longed for. I’ve experienced so many cool dopamine moments artistically that look so fun on paper but my soul sort of aches just thinking about it because none of those bring shivers down my spine. It was quite confusing to face that all that I was looking for is so beyond the mind, numbers, titles etc. I’ve read his books and now re-reading Conversations with God, for some reason my intuition called me there. Having totally new meaning to me. Thank you for putting this together. xx

Once again, I feel like you’re in my mind! I’ve been thinking about how I spend more time making content and posting to grow a platform more than I am actually tending to my art. What a joke. I’m tempted into thinking I’ll get left behind too easily. But this was the kick in the pants I needed.

Peta Kelly's avatar

So glad Chloe and there is a balance- we do have to have some kind of knack for posting about our work but the work has to be the main thing, in my opinion xx

Everything about this is EXCELLENT lol but because it’s sooo damn true and I’m sooo over it!! I spent 9 years doing literally everything you said, trying to keep up, following trends, taking the courses, the masterclasses, downloading all the freebies and guess where it landed me…burnt. The. F. Out. Complete crash out in my first year of motherhood bc I could no longer physically or mentally keep up with it anymore like I’d been (somehow). Everything about all of it gives me the ick now and I can’t shake it. Idk where to go from here but I know it ain’t back to that mess!

So here you Megan. I take regular breaks when I feel it getting blurry. Sometimes we’re tired but doing NOTHING worthwhile creatively xx

This really gets me pondering on what masterpiece/s to focus on with so many ideas.

There's a deep appreciation of other artists and wanting to spend more time on drawing and watercolours as I travel. A desire to create more meditations. A curiosity about writing a book has been there for awhile, I'd always thought it would be personal growth/self help related though lately I'm appreciating the storytelling of novels and wonder after spending a day writing a short story if there might be a book in me. Earlier this year in a ceremony for the year ahead I picked out something I wanted to do was start a podcast.

So many ideas!

i love this piece so much peta! I especially loved your examples, like stop rushing the substack post and to let your craft take a while rather than chasing near-term popularity or validation!

Thank you for sharing, dear Peta. I couldn't agree more. As I sit and ask myself "what is it I actually want to do, take space and time with...?". It has nothing to do with the internet - my soul is craving for more gatherings, in-person events... thank you.
